Topic #5 - Blogger's choice! Write about anything that's on your mind!

I think the topic I want to discuss for number 5 is Blue Mars. Not so much Blue Mars specifically, but virtual worlds in general I suppose. I had heard of BM through a couple of bloggers awhile back and then again from a friend a few nights ago. I had never made a character there so tonight I decided to try it out. I thought it had potential though they have a loooong way to go before it's ready for the public imo. But it got me thinking about how things work in the virtual world. My first venture in was back in The Sims Online days and wow, I can't believe looking back now how much fun we had in such a simple world. There was no real currency, no custom work, nothing like that. I made some amazing friends there and one who will be a best friend for life. Then there was There.com which just closed down recently. We abandoned ship a long time ago but before it shut its doors, I logged in one last time to run around and check things out. I was looking through my stuff I had acquired during my stay there and it made me sad to think once it closed, that was all just going to disappear. Not that I had any use for it but still. That brings me to my point. While I was running around all noobiefied in Blue Mars, I was thinking about how disappointing it would be to have to start all over. I mean, I don't know about you, but I have an inventory of almost 50k. I have spent a big chunk of money in Second Life. Not to mention the money I have paid every month for land. Are we just going to keep hopping from one virtual world to the next, collecting vast amounts of pretend clothes and skins, and blowing money on stuff that will just be wiped when the next big thing comes along? How long will you stick with it? I like to say now that I wouldn't get so involved in another world if SL closed down and I had to start over, but would I be lying to myself? I guess I can't really say for sure now, but it's something to think about. Virtual worlds are still fairly new considering, and maybe we just haven't had time to think about the fact that these lives we're living are only temporary. It makes you wonder why we take things so seriously in such a disposable world.

SL Bloggers - Is your avatar more or less your current biological age? Do you portray a younger avatar, or older? Why is this?

Not counting rp characters, I would say my av is roughly the same age as my rl self. I may act a little crazier than I do in rl but as long as i'm not roleplaying, I'm pretty much exactly the same in sl as I am in rl. When I do roleplay, I often play characters much younger than me simply because it gives me a chance to relive my youth and escape from the dull everyday existence I am living now.

Speaking of being yourself in sl.. My friend Violet and I took a trip to Ahern last night as part of our journey out of hermitville. Oh boy.. have you guys been there? o.O I really haven't frequented the place since my very first av was created in beta.. or when the grid goes down and everyone logs back in to a welcome area.. mine is usually Ahern. But anyway, because I don't want to be sued for posting what someone said in my blog, i'll give you short description. The first thing we hear is a girl talking about how she's been poisoned three times with Strychnine by these people that are trying to kill her through fast food. Then the guy backing her up says that "when he fantasizes about killing people, he would rather put it in their ac unit in their car so it would blow in their faces when they turned it on" WTF? Like we were totally cracking up at first and then the longer we were there, the creepier it got. Are these people for real and how did they find their way into my virtual paradise!? Before we left we got to see Gala Phoenix confront this chick who was wearing a modified skin of hers. The girl was like .. "I bought this skin and my friend added the stuff in for me, it's not like i'm handing out copies to people! What, do you like want more money or what?" *sigh* Poor Gala. lol It must be so frustrating though watching stuff like that happen to your work.

The guilty party is the chap wearing lady in the rear. .next to the runway guy I mean! bling tard erm I meant, very flashy guy. I can see why she was pissed.. it wasn't even a good modification.

Ok, so I fell a little behind but i'm just going to double post today to make up for it.

SL Bloggers - How hard do you think it is to find a relationship in SL? If you have an SL relationship, have you met in the physical world? Would you meet them? Do you think it would change your SL relationship if you met?

RL Bloggers - Would you start a relationship with someone you met online? Would you have a problem telling people that's where you met? Do you think it's easier to meet someone online rather than at work or at a club?

Wow, I started this entry 45 minutes ago, wrote out the entire post, realized it was like a short novel, and deleted. I've realized my story is just entirely too long for the purpose of this challenge so i'm going to recap and stick to the questions.

I'm going to start with the RL section. I met a guy online when I was 13, he was 18. He was starting college in California, I was staring Jr. High in Illinois. It never should have worked but it did. It was 1996 and there was still a huge stigma tied to online dating. We never really "dated" but we became very close and shared everything. I only told a few friends about him and hid him from my parents. Looking back now that was totally stupid and dangerous but luckily it never turned into something they would make a lifetime movie about. Anyway, through the years we fell for each other and things got complicated. We both went through rl relationships but never really stopped talking during any of them. In 2006 I talked him into joining second life so that we would have somewhere to hang out and do stuff together. It was perfect. We bought land, made our home.. got jobs at a club, he was a dj, I was a hostess. It was like we were living together only we had none of the rl pressures to deal with. Eventually he started to mention meeting up in rl. I was against it.. I felt like after all the time we had spent in sl that I would never live up to his image in rl. Even though he had seen pictures of me, I felt like it would still be nothing like he was expecting after he had spent so much time seeing my as my sl avatar which is of course what I WOULD look like if this was a perfect world. We fought about it quite often but always ended up dropping it. I just wasn't ready for it. I started to think he had finally given up until... the day he showed up at my work unannounced. I was an emotional disaster.. there are just no words to describe how it feels to look up into the face of someone you have known for so many years that you are just seeing for the first time. Mind blowing is an understatement. So before this gets too long again, i'm going to give you the condensed version. That weekend we did end up hanging out.. but it was only because I had a LOT of alcohol. I'm talking straight captain morgan right out of the bottle. After that, I felt awkward around him.. and he said that he felt closer. Our sl was totally ruined because after meeting, it just wasn't enough for him. Eventually I went on a vacation in Oregon for a week and he joined me there with my family, which was the first time they had heard about him. A few months later, he moved here and we got an apartment together. Three months into that, it all fell apart and I moved out. That was 2008 and we just recently started talking again this month.

So yes, I did start a relationship with someone I met online and I do admit, even to this day it still feels funny to say that we met in a chat room. I think even though it's more common, people still want to hold on to that whole "people you meet on the internet are PSYCHO CRAZY LIARS" thing and it just makes it awkward. I also think that is is much easier to make people think you're exactly who they want you to be online which is also why I think they have such disastrous outcomes in some cases. When you meet people in rl, it's harder to be someone you're not. This was my problem. Being together with him in rl.. he just wasn't the person I thought I knew. I admit that I had issues I probably should have dealt with before he moved here and i'm not saying it was totally his fault, but I do think he told me a lot of things he knew I wanted to hear and then had a hard time hiding his true self when we were together. So I would have to say, most times, meeting in rl will totally change your sl in one way or another. Whether it be good or bad, it's going to seem inadequate at some point.

SL Bloggers - Write about three positive things going on in your Second Life.

   Ok, I guess this topic comes at a good time. I've recently signed up at avmatch.com (yea, I know) anyway, I signed up mostly to find new friends to hang out with since i'm usually sitting around bored and no one is online. While i'm not going to out the people i've met.. I will say i'm happy I did it. I never can figure out why I have such a hard time making new friends in sl. I'm shy in rl, but not so much in sl anymore so it baffles me. I try to talk to people, I make kind gestures. I have sent out free things I make to people who I think might like them, but I never get any responses, not even a "I don't really like this, but thanks anyway" lol So I don't know.. I was starting to think for some reason people just didn't like me.. even though I had never even spoken to most of them. So getting back on track, I think this site is kind of awesome in that you can connect with people who share your interests. I've had some interesting experiences.. if that's what you want to call them. I've had one that creeped me out, one that made me feel like a worthless piece of dog shit, one that is hopefully going to turn into a sweet friendship, and one that.. well, might be turning into something more. Hopefully I will find out more tonight :) Ok ok, but this would be positive thing number one. I'm meeting new people, hopefully making friends.. and learning not to be such a recluse in a world where I can do anything I can imagine.

   Number two branches off of number one. My best friend and I have decided that we BOTH need to stop being such hermits, so in an effort to be more sociable and make SL fun again, we are going to start forcing ourselves to go out and find somewhere new every night. I think our first venture may be orientation island. I always hear about crazy stuff going on there so what better way to break ourselves in to the vast sea of people who inhabit sl. Logging in to sit alone in a box 5000m in the sky is just not what sl was made for and I refuse to do that anymore.

   Number three. Number three is uh.. hmm. *scratches head* OH, yes.. this. Blogging. I am crossing my fingers that this is just the right thing I needed to get me going again and take my blog back into the right direction. I hope that maybe this also helps me with numbers one and two. Perhaps I have been looking for friends in the wrong places and this will introduce me to some like minded people. :)

  So there it is, post number two. I did it.. Yea! I thought I would have failed by now. lol

BBBC 2010 - Entry 1

Well, I think I may have borked this already but i'm gonna pretend that I didn't so shh don't tell! So, the rules of the bbbc are basically to post at least once a day for the duration of the challenge. I haven't posted in over a year so I thought this would be a great time to get started again. I used to keep a live journal back in the day and it really helped me clear my mind when I was overwhelmed with things going on in my life. Which leads me into my first post.. the topic being: Why did you become a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

I actually started my blog because I wanted to show a different side of sl fashion, the basic pieces that are usually overlooked. Once I started it however, I realized that was going to get boring pretty fast. lol So I just started throwing random posts out there and eventually stopped posting altogether because it just didn't feel genuine. So, with this challenge as my kick start, I have decided to revert back to what I originally felt comfortable blogging about, my adventures, my experiences, my successes, my failures.. my second life. I have realized more and more that this should be for me before anyone else and i'm not so worried now if people don't like it or find it interesting. I know when i'm looking back at these entries a year from now, it will be to me and that's the important part.

So here we go, my adventure begins today. Wish me luck!

Same Damned Thing Challenge

When I saw Achariya's newest challenge, I knew I had to get on board! I'm always fascinated at how so many pieces of clothing in sl can be switched up and made new by adding it to something completely different. Like i've said before, I rarely buy things that I have to wear with one outfit specifically.

The Cambridge is an awesome example of versatility. I can't even tell you how many times i've worn this. It goes with everything. Here's what I came up with this time. It goes in a totally different direction than what you would normally associate with Armidi which is why I love it! =)

{Kinetix} - Review

Ready for a saucy post? Ok.. well not SO saucy.. there's no sexorz or anything.. but these poses i'm about to show you could definitely lead to some of that! ;) These are from Vernice Burks and Jermaine Docherty's pose shop, {Kinetix}, and they are hot!

First up we have Take Me Too which is pretty self explanatory. hehe I love this pose. It's sensual and sexy with a touch of tenderness. Ok.. whatever, basically it stays true it's name and one would expect much clothes ripping to take place very soon!

Next up is Don't Let Me Fall which is a bit on the sweeter side but still very sensual. This one is a bit more.. "I'll gently lay you down on this bed and THEN frantically tear off your clothes" haha What?! I had to keep it saucy right?? ;)

But seriously, these poses are very nicely done and very expressive. It's a great capture of emotion. Another thing I REALLY liked is that they seemed to fit me really well even though my av is on the smaller side. Major points there!

Also, they offer a frequent shopper program which is sweet as hell. Every time you purchase a pose, you will receive a proof of purchase in your folder. Save those up and when you get five, you get a FREE pose of your choice! How can ya beat that!?

Ok so.. I'm all about versatility when it comes to my sl wardrobe. I would rather spend my lindens on something I can mix up and pair with several different looks than something I will only wear with certain things.. which usually ends up meaning that I won't wear it very often at all. These jeans from LikeA have nailed it! And the best part? Two of these were free group gifts!

This first pair is the only pair that I had to actually buy and they were still a good deal at only 150L. They're just the basic faded blue and they come with the extremely real looking sculpted cuffs and the system flare version as well. The sculpted cuffs have preset men and women settings or you can adjust them manually.

This second pair is one of the group gifts which also comes with a pair of red cargo pants (not shown). These are the damaged style which I love and they come with the larger, baggier version of the flare. *my fave*

You can also purchase 2 different styles of the cuffs in the store for only 35L and they go perfectly with all the blue denim styles so basically you can take each pair and wear it at least 3 different ways!

I woke up this morning to an awesome collaboration release. I can't even tell you how excited I am to be blogging this set! Winter is my favorite season and this captures it perfectly. This comes from four of SL's very talented creators and consists of 32 pieces, skins included, which makes this a total steal!! Not to mention that the jewelry, hair, and the bows on the shoes are all color change so you can play with tons of combos. Here are a couple that I came up with.

I woke up this morning to the wave of gossip surrounding the feed. When I saw Sn@tch vs. Torridwear, I thought it must surely be some type of joke. How can the two even be compared? While they are both very talented designers, the products they produce are so completely opposite. Then, I read the post. I was sickened.

How can someone take it upon themselves to blow an issue like this wide open when it's nothing that directly concerns them? Especially someone who has already been involved in a nasty mess like this one. I may be new to the world of blogging, but that doesn't mean I have been out of the loop in the past. I know this woman doesn't have a very good rep when it comes to theft accusations.

I'm not saying that she was wrong for expressing an opinion on the subject, she has a right to an opinion just like the rest of us, but I believe it was horribly wrong of her to go public with something like this when it's none of her business. This is something that should have been discussed with the designer in person.. quietly.

I feel absolutely horrible for Ivey, knowing what she is going to have to go through even if these claims are dropped and go nowhere. Imagine the people who read that post and then spread it around like wild fire without even paying any mind to Ivey's defense. These are serious accusations and could be very damaging to a person's reputation on the grid.

I really hope that as she's sitting there hiding from the drama that she herself started, she realizes what she has done and how low it really was. I also hope that Ivey keeps her head high and keeps going with what she does. Her true fans will be there regardless of what these people say. It's perfectly obvious that there was no intentional theft in this case. It all comes down to an honest mistake in my opinion.

Fall is almost here! Well, at least in my part of the world. The days are getting chilly and it's time to pull out those warm clothes. I know personally, there's always a few weeks that i'm cold but not ready to give up ALL of my summer clothes, so I try to mix and match seasons. This is a LOT easier for me to do in SL lol. It's cool and rainy out today, and this outfit just looked like something that would be a little on the warmer side with a hint of the passing summer.

I started with the Turtle Sweater from Kurotsubaki. I've had this since last fall and I still love it. It looks so cozy and comfy. It comes in a two pack with a navy blue version too for only 100L. It's a total steal and they're so versatile. I paired them with the free, yes FREE, Check Pants from UnToneQuilt and to jazz it up a little, I slipped on the slinky stilettos in black from Maitreya. These used to be free in front of the store but I didn't see them the last time I tp'd in.

I'M LATE AGAIN! I totally missed bandana day because I was out of town having a WoW fest.. (don't tell anyone that either) but I HAD to do this post because I loved the bandana I bought sooo much. I had a hard time choosing from all those up on the wall, but I finally decided on this cute pink flowery one from Torrid.

I picked it because I thought it would go with a ton of stuff... um no. At least not in my inventory. It totally clashed with the very few shades of pink I actually have and the pattern was hard to match. Buuuut, I finally found something that worked and here it is!

The totally cute jewelry is miscellaneous pieces of the cuppycake set from the oh so talented Violet Voltaire. If you have never seen her stuff (which I doubt) go there now! It's freakin awesome and it looks so good you'll wanna eat it! The overalls are an oldie but goodie from Panjen and the shoes are the chucks from Akeyo which I lurve and wear with just about everything! I chose to go topless not to be sexy, but because I could not find a good pink top to go with that bandana and the ones I tinted came out horribly. lol Besides, they cover the nips and that's good enough for me! hehe

I'm off to my mini vacation early in the AM, so I thought this post would be appropriate. Ok.. so i'm not going to Hawaii, nor would I want to (I'm a total winter person) but I am going on a canoe trip and that has to do with water = Hula girl? Hair Fair Challenge

Ok, so.. the the challenge of the moment was spawned by the hair fair. It's pretty simple, see how good you can look with no prim attachments. Sounds easy.. it's not! LOL Just ask Vi and Lala. They'll tell you how long I stood there changing clothes.. it wasn't pretty. Anyway.. I finally settled on this look. It's totally got a G.I. Jane feel to it, wouldn't you say?

So unless you've been hiding under a "really big rock", as i've been known to do from time to time, you know all about the Panty Raid hunt going on at Starlust. If not, get over there and grab some free stuff! There's more than just panties as you can see below.

Out of all the fabulous gifties I got, I have to say my fave find was the swinging tassles from Schadenfreude. Now these are no ordinary pasties my friend. These are highly detailed, animated, swinging tassles! And they come in a huge pack of colors! You can't beat it.

So of course I had to drag my besties, Violet and Lala, into the photo box with me and snap some pics to share with you. I wish I could show the swinging animation better but that's all the more reason for you to go out and grab your own!

Last night, EchoRae came back to SL! Granted we only stood around and changed clothes and took pics for like 3 hours, but it was just like old times! She was my partner in crime on SL and then she went away. Made me sad :/ But, things happen and people have to do their own thing. However, I felt I needed to go through and grab some old snapshots of our crazy antics and share with you all. I don't have many since i've had two HD's burn up and take a majority of my old sl pics with them, but I had a handful that i've uploaded in the past..thankfully! So here's some memories.. old and new. And be nice about the old ones.. those are circa 2006 so we deserve a break! :P

I hate when holidays roll around because I get all this cool stuff to wear in sl, and then I never have time to log in on the actual holiday. grrs. Anyway, I figured I might as well do this post, after all.. it's still kinda July 4th weekend.

Hey again! I want you all to meet my new friend, Travolta! This little guy is a Zooby creation and the new love of my life! hehe He was a bit pricey at 1500L but definitely worth every penny. I though I would share with you some of our adventures and show you a couple more little fur balls that I've come across.

Here we are getting ready to take off on our mini vacation. Travolta decided to give me a little kiss for the camera. How cute!

First, we dropped by Kindly City and took a little hike to the great outdoors for some quiet fishin time. After we had enough of the mosquitoes, we decided to head to Busch Stadium to catch a Cards game. Surely I don't have to say who won, do I? :P

When we arrived home, our friend Reese was waiting to say hello. He also brought along his buddy, Mr. Gibbers. He stayed for awhile until Travolta decided to start throwing Poo. It was a messy situation. Sorry Reese!

After Reese took off, I got a call from my friend, Violet, who was chillin somewhere in Spain. Don't ask. Anyway, she invited us over and we busted out some maracas. We partied well into the night.

We finally made it home and had enough time to snuggle up in bed and read a few stories before drifting off to sleep.

Silly travel story aside, this chimp from Zooby's really is pretty cool. He is menu driven and includes 10 T-shirts, 9 styles of glasses, 3 different hat styles in a variety of colors, optional chain and diaper, lots of animations including eating and sleeping, and of course he throws poo as well as hearts, airplanes, bombs, and bottles. He also kisses you and plays peek a boo. It's super cute! Like I said before, he's a little pricey at 1500l, but the work that has gone into it makes it worth it for sure. The rat on Reese's shoulder is also from Zooby's and it was 450l.

Another quick pic to show you a pet I came across at the Puppeteer store. It's a little brown puppy that sits on your shoulder and does all kinds of cute things. He's normally 500L but right now he's in the group notices for free! There's a joining fee of 10L but that's a steal.

Fave Freebie Swimsuits

So, this is my first stab at blogging sl fashion. This isn't a blog for anything specific besides SL in general. I have no goals for this blog.. I don't expect to become a famous blogger or anything like that.. this is just for fun. God knows I need more things to waste time on! Anyway, on to the point of this post. My favorite freebie swimsuits i've come across this season. These may not all still be available, I apologize for that. Here they are, in no particular order....

The Anizia Ocean Bikini and Halter set from [Decoy]. I love the fact that you can wear this set so many different ways. It comes with a light and dark version of the halter so you can mix and match. This piece is super cute with a pair of white shorts or capri pants as well.

Next, we have the freebie Black and White Bikini from NG. Now, I know this has a logo which I normally hate, but it's subtle enough that it doesn't jump right out at you, and I think the rest of the suit makes up for it anyway.

This is another super cute one. It's the One Piece Purple Dot Suit from /artilleri/ I absolutely love the retro style swimsuits. In the land of flaring ass cheeks, I find it refreshing to be a little more conservative! This one does the trick.

This is another one on the conservative side, though with a little more butt lol. It's the Pinup Swimsuit w/ Sunhat in yellow from Rosemar. This was included in her massive freebie sale this weekend, I'm sorry I didn't post sooner so you could have gotten a chance to grab it. It's absolutely beautiful. She has this in a ton of colors so go grab one anyway!

While you're at Rosemar picking up that gorgeous suit, run downstairs to Popfuzz's bargain basement and grab these cute suits too! I love the detail on these and they come in a rainbow of colors. I think these were 5L each but well worth it.

These next suits are from PUD. The Sally Love set was a 25L Valentines special, i'm sure it's probably gone though you could check. The Costa Rica came from a hunt, I believe. Don't hold me to it, it's been awhile. I just had to throw these in here though because I love the style of the bottoms. I like the way it appears as though they're falling down just a tad. Super sexy.

NEXT! The Verdure Suit from Nyte 'N' Day. I found this one on one of the freebie blogs. I'm just really into the boyshort style this summer. I like the detail on this one and i'm glad I found it because it got me back into Nyte's work which I had gotten away from for some odd reason.

Last, but definitely not least, is the Pink Pleasure Hawaiian Bikini from Surfline. Beautiful sim, awesome clothes, and a new freebie every week! How much better can it get? Great detail on this one as well even if it does make me flare a little ass cheek ;)
